SO IS THIS THE WAY 2016 IS GOING TO BE?
What a year 2016 has been! And it’s only 7 days old!
China’s financial markets halted trading again today after tumbling 7% in the first 29 minutes. Global markets will certainly react in sync. Oil prices fell yesterday to their lowest level since the depths of the great recession. Then there’s North Korea’s bomb and the new flare-up in the Middle East.
2016 PREDICTIONS IN A WORLD FILLED WITH CHANGE
Uncertainty is the operative word for the business climate in 2016. Making 2016 predictions in this environment is almost like throwing darts at a dartboard. However, I’ve singled out commentaries from two D’Amelio Network experts who might be especially useful.
2016 PREDICTIONS: VIKRAM MANSHARAMANI
Last night PBS NewsHour published “16 Predictions for 2016” by VIKRAM MANSHARAMANI, the Yale Lecturer and Harvard Senior Fellow who is author of Boombustology: Spotting Financial Bubbles Before They Burst. Vikram’s 2016 predictions cover much of the political and economic news being made right now. These flare-ups are the new normal, Vikram says. Most important, he feels strongly that tracking the spikes and troughs too closely actually gets in the way of taking in the big picture. Vikram’s predictions cover a 5-year span – through 2021 in order to focus people away from the daily machinations of markets and news competing for our attention. In his speeches, writing and consulting, Vikram shows people how to take a step back and get above the noise in order to make better decisions about their business.
GEOFF COLVIN’S LOOK AT 2016
GEOFF COLVIN’s Fortune PowerSheet for Tuesday recapped the Monday’s mess in the global financial markets spurred by the implosion in China. For Geoff, just as important as the dramatic changes taking place around the world is the way leaders and companies react to these disruptions in the marketplace. The best leaders and companies win in tough times, Geoff says, by confronting reality as it is – and not how they wished reality would/could be. A great case in point is Geoff’s Fortune article on Tim Cook’s Epic Challenge to Grow Apple. As for Geoff’s 2016 predictions – take a moment to watch his video from this week.
SPEAKING OF 2016 PREDICTIONS
All this uncertainty is why audiences at events today CRAVE experts who offer insights on what the world’s volatile mood swings really mean. Geoff Colvin and Vikram Mansharamani certainly do that – and their audiences are better prepared as a result.
